Day 3 - Vendas Novas to Lagos | Portugal na Diagonal 2024
Day 3 was probably the best day in the trip for me. There was sand until the eyes could see (and if you know me, you know I go ape shit with sand!) and some of the best flowy trails I've ridden.
And best of all, FLAT OUT all day long.
Enjoy!

    I dont think there is a huge point to this test... no matter how good the SC vs TPI is... a lot depends on the rider and riding style.. IMO You need to compare same rider on same terrain riding similar to have a good comparison. I have gotten 50% more fuel economy than a riding buddy, (on the same bike) while riding faster through the exact same terrain. You are also doing a very long ride mostly open/flowy terrain. Still a good video! Thanks!

    Why not put cone valves on both sides of both the main and mid-speed dampers?

    • @StepstoPodium
      @StepstoPodium 8 днів тому

      It simply doesn't make sense to have that kind of valve on the base valve, it would make the overall suspension behaviour very hard to adjust, even with the adjustability it provides.

    • @Drunken_Hamster
      @Drunken_Hamster 8 днів тому

    • @StepstoPodium

      The rebound valve doesn't need to have such complex and elaborate valves. What's available already covers all the needs you might have. On rebound you jest need to control the extension of the spring, that's all.

    I don't understand what is suppose to lift that needle, because it's not connected to the throttle in any kind of way and a spring and gravity is holding it down. I assume a vacuum, but from where? The engine side? I don't think so...

    • @StepstoPodium
      @StepstoPodium 8 днів тому

      how so lift the needle?

    • @choppergirl
      @choppergirl 8 днів тому

      @@StepstoPodium On the main jet, the needle that goes into the main jet and is attached to a piston, that is pressed down by a spring... a piston that obstructs the airflow into the carbuerator from the airbox. That piston is not attached to the throttle... instead, the throttle is attached to a separate vein on the engine side that swings open or closed. On my carb the jet that always gets clogged is the bloody pilot jet next to the main jet. I can clean it out surgically clean with fresh gas with stabil and B-12 in it, put the carb back on, it will run great once or twice, and then the bloody pilot jet is clogged again and it runs like shlt aka bogging down to zero when you twist the throttle from idle.

    So you believe these cartridges are better than the 6500 kit? And why? I heard you mention the Raven is as comfortable as the AER forks that were setup for enduro. I've heard many people complain the AER fork is very harsh , so for me, this is not a great compliment. Can you comment or add some detail to this to clarify?

    • @StepstoPodium
      @StepstoPodium 25 днів тому

      Far better. They focus more on offroad needs. Provides more comfort but amazing bottoming resistance. Well, from my personal experience with the AER, I can say they can become quite comfortable (although I think they can be too soft and feedbackless to my personal taste). The Ravens provide comfort without sacrificing feedback needed to ride confidently and essentially, fast. The 6500 are just a simple closed cartridge kit with an external adjuster for preload. Nothing wrong with them, but don't have the potential the Ravens have.

    Excuse me, I don't understand why you say that aluminum is stiffer than steel? Okay, we also need to consider the section of double-beam aluminum frames, but a tubular steel frame is significantly more rigid. Considering that, as you presented in the video, the elastic modulus of steel is higher = more rigid, aluminum is more flexible and therefore less rigid; it also has an FCC crystalline structure. Even considering the higher performing aluminum alloys, like the 7000 series, they have a significantly lower elastic modulus than quenched and tempered steel. For confirmation, the sections of aluminum frames are larger because if they used the same sections as steel, they would bend too much. Aluminum is less rigid than steel. What you told about the stiffness of alluminium frame is because they have more frame section and that the reason why is stiffer? thanks love your channel
